WOMEN's WORK FESTIVAL x BALANCING ACT

In 2025 the Women's Work Festival partnered with Balancing Act to understand the unique challenges faced by working parents and caregivers in the St. John's theatre community.

We recognize that balancing family and career can be incredibly demanding for artists and theatre professionals. To better understand these challenges and explore potential solutions, we conducted a brief survey to gather insights from caregivers working in the arts sector, which is being developed into a resource guide for artistic leaders on supporting caregiver artists.

During the 19th Annual Women's Work Festival in 2025, we co-hosted the panel Behind the Scenes: Caregiving in Creation at LSPU Hall in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, featuring panelists A. Powell, Vanessa Cardoso-Whelan, Sharon King-Campbell, and Sophie Angnatok.

In October 2025, WWF Board Members Vanessa Cardoso-Whelan, Ruth Lawrence and our GM Ana Pitol shared the results of our LevelUp! with community members at the 36th Annual St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival.

Results of the survey are included below.
